Karim Gharbi meeting families

On 28 April 2019, a road accident in Sabbala, in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid, killed twelve agricultural workers, most of them women from the village of Blahdia. The tragedy shocked Tunisia and drew attention to the conditions in which rural women travel to work.

A response to an appeal

Answering an appeal from a Tunisian association, Karim Gharbi pledged to support the families and children of the victims. His commitments, reported on 1 May 2019, included:

  • food baskets for the families during Ramadan;
  • new clothes for the children for Eid;
  • financial help for the households;
  • surgery for a 62-year-old woman suffering from kidney failure.

“I grew up with the mentality that Tunisians help each other,” he says in I AM K2. “If one of us was sad, we would share their sorrows and stand by them.”
