Repair before you build
Karim's first idea was to build new schools. In the field he saw that Tunisia already has many schools; what they lack is maintenance. So the work focused on renovating the ones children already attend.
In the Kasserine region, one of the most neglected in the country, the programme began in December 2020 with the rural school of El Argoub, in Thala. More than ten public schools and high schools have been repaired: structure, sanitation, equipment and learning materials.
Ain Draham: six weeks to a safe school
Civil society activist Souad Ayadi received a call for help from a school in Ain Draham, in the north-west. The roof could collapse under winter rain and exposed electrical wiring could shock a small child.
She brought a contractor on the day of the visit. In about a month and a half the school had new toilets, safe wiring and a renovated interior. "I saw the joy in the children's eyes," she says in the film. "They felt reborn."

The contract signed on site, then two weeks of works: plastering, a new roof slab, painting. The principal, Houcine Saidi, reports on progress.

Beyond renovation
Every week Karim receives CVs from young Tunisians who want to study abroad because their speciality is not taught at home. For him, renovating schools is only the start: the curriculum itself needs reform, with room for the careers and sectors of the future.
