K2Rhym nominated for the MTV EMA Best Middle East Act
On 11 November 2012, the MTV Europe Music Awards took place in Frankfurt, Germany. In the Best Middle East Act category, K2Rhym was one of five nominees, together with Ahmed Soultan, Karl Wolf, Qusai and Sandy. The award went to Ahmed Soultan.
Recognition for a cross-border sound
The nomination recognised a career built between Tunisia, France and the Gulf: French-language rap mixed with Arabic and raï, collaborations with artists from Paris, Algiers and Beirut, and music videos that played across Arab satellite channels.
By then K2Rhym had worked with Reda Taliani on “Dubaï By Night”, recorded with the Lebanese singer Rola Saad, and released “Number One”. He had also signed with the Egyptian channel and label Melody, whose airplay carried his videos across the Arab world.
What came next
In the years after the nomination he moved further into production and international collaborations, starting with “Immortal” featuring Snoop Dogg. In 2015 he was named Best Middle Eastern Rapper.
