K2Rhym becomes IIMSAM Global Goodwill Ambassador
In April 2017, at a press conference at the W Hotel in Dubai, the Intergovernmental Institution for the Use of Micro-algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition (IIMSAM) named Karim Gharbi a Global Goodwill Ambassador.
Rap against hunger
IIMSAM is an intergovernmental body that works against acute malnutrition, in line with the second Sustainable Development Goal, zero hunger. K2Rhym joined its “Rap Hunger” campaign, which uses music to raise awareness and funds. Two years later, all net proceeds of his single “One Love”, with Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Kevinho and Ronaldinho, went to IIMSAM’s fight against acute malnutrition.
In the field
IIMSAM says K2Rhym was one of the first rap artists to visit a refugee camp in Iraqi Kurdistan, around 2017. In I AM K2, he recalls the exhausted children of families who had fled the war in Iraq. In Tunisia, the institute lists his support for children’s centres in Zahrouni and Gammarth, food aid during the COVID-19 lockdown, and Eid al-Adha donations for families in need.
